Hunting in Manawatū-Whanganui

Manawatū-Whanganui runs from the southern Ruahine Range across the Whanganui River hill country, a big stretch of bush and public conservation land in the lower central North Island. Red stag and fallow deer are the core quarry, with sika well established in the Ruahine as part of the wider central North Island herd, and the region is also known for its network of private pay-to-hunt fallow blocks through the Whanganui back country. The area even holds New Zealand's only wild sambar herd, a genuine oddity. The autumn roar is the standout window, and operators here bridge the public-private access picture well.
