The Gateway to the New Zealand Backcountry

For an international hunter, planning a trip to the far side of the world is a massive undertaking. New Zealand's wild landscapes are legendary, but finding a trusted guide shouldn't be a shot in the dark. You shouldn't have to sift through confusing forums or out-of-date websites to plan a bucket-list experience.

The New Zealand Hunting Directory was built from the ground up to bridge that gap. We're completely independent, and we check the operators we list against official sources like the Companies Register and the NZPHGA where they apply, so every listing is a real, currently trading business we've confirmed.

Behind the directory

This site is run by two mates who hunt.

Bayley grew up on the West Coast of the South Island and has hunted it his whole life, mostly red stag and chamois country. The photography on this site is his, and he's the one answering Ask the Expert. If you want to know what a bull's doing at last light, he's watched it more times than he's photographed it.

Karl's background is a bit different: years as a touring musician, a Tui award, then web development, photography and video.

We built the directory together after seeing how hard it is to tell a legitimate NZ outfitter from a marketing front when you're searching from the other side of the world. Every page on it is the two of us: the articles, the photos, the operator checks.
