Hunting in Bay of Plenty

Most of the Bay of Plenty's hunting happens on public forest: the Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park, the Mamaku Plateau, and the bush around the Rotorua lakes. Red stag and fallow are the main game, with sika in the bush toward the central North Island. The roar in late March and April is the season everything revolves around, and some blocks only open at certain times of year. Because so much of the region is public land with permits and ballots involved, a guide who already has the access sorted saves you the hardest part.
