Hunting in Wellington
Wellington's hunting country is the Tararua and Remutaka Forest Parks, steep forested public land that rewards hunters willing to work for it. Red stag and fallow are the main game. Stags roar through late March and April. Guided hunting in the region is mostly on private land and estate rather than in the forest parks, which is a different hunt from the public-land one the region is known for.
